Grade 3

Mrs. Avery Uhing has been teaching for more than ten years. Originally from Colorado, she has spent her entire teaching career at St. James School.

What do you enjoy most about teaching at St. James? I enjoy St. James most of all because of the people and the Catholic environment.  I love my students and my fellow faculty members and look forward to seeing them every day.  I am grateful for the opportunities to attend daily Mass and for the spirit of teaching and learning in the Catholic tradition.  I truly love what I teach.

Who is your favorite Saint? One of my favorite saints is St. John the Apostle.  I love that he identifies himself as “the one Jesus loved” and I love his Gospel, which is in many ways unique of all the Gospels.

What do you like to do in your leisure time? I enjoy reading, taking walks, visiting museums and listening to music and podcasts.

What are your favorite books? One of my favorite books is The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien.  I love how compelling and adventurous the story is, especially because of how deeply religious it is, which makes it feel very “real.”  I love the characters and how exceptionally beautiful the writing is.
